Owners/Principals:

Frank J. Bremser, CPA/ABV

One of the founding partners and president of BGI, Frank has an established career in public accounting dating back to 1985.. A CPA since 1988 and ABV (Accredited in Business Valuation) since 2001, Frank spent the first eleven years of his career at a large Midwest public accounting firm until leaving to form his own private practice. One year later, his practice merged to form what is BGI today.

Frank graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with honors, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree majoring in Accounting and a specialization in International Business. Frank is a member of the AICPA, WICPA and Institute of Management Accountants.

Kevin T. Fischer, CPA

A CPA since 1992, Kevin spent the first five years of his career with a large Midwest accounting firm, he then left public accounting and ventured into the world of private industry. After a three-year stretch working in private industry, Kevin returned to public accounting when he joined BGI in 1997. He was then named partner in January 2001.

Kevin’s alma mater is the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he obtained his Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting. A member of the AICPA and WICPA, Kevin keeps busy away from the office by giving back to his community as a youth coach for both softball and soccer.

Dave Hegg, CPA

Prior to joining BGI as a manager in 2001, Dave spent the first 10 years of his accounting and business-consulting career in public accounting as a staff accountant and manager at a Midwest-based accounting firm. He then moved into private industry for 12 years as a business owner of a pre-employment screening company and controller for two local manufacturing/distribution/construction companies. Through his years of experience working with manufacturing, distribution, construction, retail and service companies, Dave is devoted to helping clients build, strengthen and expand their business.

Dave’s alma mater is the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he obtained his Bachelors of Science in Accounting. A CPA since 1982, Dave is an active member of both the AICPA and WIPCA. He is also a member of Toastmasters.

Mike McHugh, CPA

With the firm since its inception, Mike has a diverse career in both public and private accounting. A CPA since 1974, Mike started out his career with a public accounting and consulting firm focusing his efforts mainly on the manufacturing industry. He left public accounting to take on multiple roles at various companies where he became an expert in the manufacturing, food distribution, transportation and brokerage industries. Mike then returned to public accounting in 1993, when he helped form what BGI is today. Since returning to public accounting, Mike has also been working in the estate and trust areas.

Mike obtained his Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is a member of the AICPA and WICPA.

Jim Schommer, CPA

One of the founding partners of BGI, Jim has over 40 years of experience in public accounting. A CPA since August, 1964, Jim spent the first fourteen years of his career at a multi-office, Wisconsin-based accounting firm, which merged with an international accounting firm in 1975 where he practiced as an audit partner for sixteen years. In 1991, he then formed his own business and tax consulting firm and seven years later combined with Frank Bremser to form what is now BGI. Today, Jim is a retired BGI partner (since December, 2002) but remains very active in the accounting community consulting with various CPA and law firms.

Jim received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a member of the AICPA and WICPA, and has served as chairman of the WICPA Southern Chapter and for numerous WICPA committees. Jim holds a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation and is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants for which he served as President of the Madison Chapter.

Thomas B. Stitgen, CPA

A CPA since 1995, Tom managed his own private practice for five years until he merged with BGI in November 2001. Through his experience working with construction, high-tech, manufacturing, marine industry, non-profit, real-estate and service companies, along with his background growing up in a family business and owning his own business, Tom has the familiarity and know-how to meet client’s needs.

Tom obtained his Bachelors of Science in Economics and a Masters in Accountancy with an emphasis in Taxation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His is an active member of AICPA, WICPA, NSA and the Madison Area Builders Association.

Stephanie Imhoff, CPA, CVA

Stephanie began her career in public accounting at a large Midwest-based accounting firm before joining BGI as a Manager in November 2003. She brings over ten years of experience in various areas including tax, audits, reviews, compilations and business consulting. Additionally, Stephanie is a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), performing valuations for various types of businesses.

Stephanie earned a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She keeps active in the business community as a member of AICPA, WICPA and NACVA.
